Social Studies and Reading Skills
Sosyal Bilgiler ve Okuma Becerileri

Kubilay YAZICI [1]

Most of the social studies materials are composed of written texts. And this situation causes social studies teachers to have very important duties in education and development of reading which is a type of ability. Social studies students getting to a desired level of success is parallel to their learning something from written texts. Reading is composed of different sub-abilities. The most important reading abilities that should be taught and developed can be expressed as; making up vocabulary, reading comprehension and study-research abilities.
